pixieplus (reportedly the designated successor of kuickshow). The code is quite different, but the problem is the same. Other programs I checked do read the work area (not unlikely with KDE apps since kdecore code does the XGetWindowProperty() handling for them), but they don't fail spectacularly (presumably because they do some sanity checks, which IMO would be a good idea even with e16 fixed).
