There's a bug in pre8 that wasn't in pre6 (and probably wasn't in pre7, though I can't remember if I used that one or not).
When you regenerate menus, it replaces all your nice custom menus with the default ones. Rather annoying, to say the least. I've just been restarting E everytime I make a menu change. :)
