I have just been playing around a bit with Xorg CVS (Xvesa + xcompmgr).I hear it blows up with composite enabled though on the Xorg prereleases.
It looks to me like things work quite well. The only problem I found was that the translucency only seems to work on desktop 1 (the root window).
