Regardless, people seem to be attracted to enlightenment and tend to try compiling it even if the software isn't ready; besides there's no reason they shouldn't try compiling enlightenment if they really really want to. It's a good learning experience, just as long as they don't plague the developers with questions. Hence my idea that we might look at creating some more specific compilation documentation for the complete newbie. The slashdot posting really won't help either in terms of premature users.

We ought to maintain a page listing current distro specific solutions.

For example:
Gentoo Users:
EFL packages are already in the portage tree and maintained by Vapier.
For current cvs use the -9999.ebuild(s) (hardmasked), other packages are not quite up-to-date as things are still changing.
To unmask the -9999.ebuild(s) edit /etc/portage/package.keywords
Enter each package line, e.g.
x11-libs/ecore -*
x11-libs/evas -*
...
...
To update a package, simply re-emerge it: 'emerge evas'

These kinds of documents could be submitted into the cms (drupal) if it ever gets running officially. Otherwise people could submit a few patches for the website to the devs.
Anyhow, my 2 cents.

Hm... but isn't it explicitly stated (somewhere, don't remember where) that they don't want people downloading e17 until a beta is released unless they plan on helping out?

Actually, it was a warning not to complain about compile errors (the
maintainers don't look kindly on it). Best approach is either fix the
scripts or wait a few hours and try again.
