(BI would love to... and arlo is right - check mythtv out first. personally i
(Bstill would want to DIY - mythtv mostly collects a lot of other back-ends - its
(Bmain work is in providing remote control between boxes (multiple htpc's in the
(Bhouse) and a gui. thats and thats all easy with EFL (these days). i wrote
(Belation for myself and my gf who wanted to play cd's and audio cd's. its a bit
(Bhackish, but it was intended maybe to be expanded in future. i think a great
(Bplace to start would be to finish off the dvd player and do everything properly.
(Bhave proper subtitle and language choosing menus, on screen display of play
(Bstatus (position, fast forward/rewind status etc. etc. etc.) so make that part
(B100% comparable to an off the shelf dvd player - then start adding in "funky
(Bfeatures" like being able to browse a dvd by thumbnail (it would go through and
(Bmaybe make 1 thumbail per chapter, cache it based on the dvd cd ID) so you can
(Bchoose chapters much more easily. also the dvd insert/eject code is not that
(Bgreat. make it handle multiple dvd devices (so u can picture in picture for
(Bdvs'd).... etc.

(Bemotion needs fixing to work with xine-lib latest. it works with rc5 but stopped
(Bworking as of rc7. emotion could be expanded to allow direct fetching of video
(Bdata (for making thumbnails) and updating to newer xine-lib api stuff.

(Bonce you have this done then adding in a master menu would work well (elation
(Bwas very much media driven - stick a disk in, it tries to figure out what it is
(Band just "do the right thing" as my gf loves her dvd's and cd's - she just
(Bdoesn't grok the idea of ripping no matter how easy i make it). making the media
(Bdetection more robust, handing photo cd's, cd's with mp3's on them or .jpg's and
(Bjump into a special mode. the cd audio player is a real big hack. it uses
(Bemotion - but its very limited.
