I have a few questions and comments about the composite settings in E 16.8.
I figured out that I had to upgrade to Xorg 6.8, and make sure to enable the Composite Extension in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. So far so good. (NB, it might help to call DialogAlert() from ECompMgrStart() with a little helpful message if you try to enable composite without having the necessary extensions in the X server. I'd be glad to supply the patch).
The I sussed out that you can pass "-C [0-3]" as a parameter to e16 to set the mode, though I don't get what that actually does, since it doesn't work for me. All I know is that as soon as I enable composite, everything slows to a complete crawl. Any idea if it's something E is doing or just problems with the extensions in the X server? This is under mandrake 10.1.
