even starting e explicitly with LANG=it_IT didn't help.
I would take a look at /etc/locales.conf to make sure your locale isn't
commented out - then, if it was, run locales-gen
also, make sure glibc-locales is installed..
Just keep in mind I'm not an expert on locales :)
