Hello, The 1.21 cycle is winding down with essentially zero actionable items remaining, so it seems like a good time to send a mail related to this.
The ticket for the proposed scheduling and (more strict) methodology for the 1.22 release has been up for a couple weeks now without further comments (https://phab.enlightenment.org/T7169), and probably there should be some discussion at some point? Stefan isn't managing 1.22, so if a plan isn't finalized by the time the current release ships then we are effectively no longer in a development/release cycle. Not having a clear and defined plan that the project adheres to for a release is how we have ended up with uncomfortably long development/release cycles like 1.21, so let's try to avoid that. There's a number of items already up in the feature proposal query ( https://phab.enlightenment.org/maniphest/query/NIFx8sASYimQ/), and all of them seem reasonable so far--they can all likely be completed during 1.22, which is a good thing. Lastly, the release team ( https://phab.enlightenment.org/project/members/233/) still has very few members. It's currently my opinion that if you aren't a member of this team then you are forfeiting your right to have input in the decision-making process related to how and when releases are executed; this is the group of people who are committing their time to the hard work of coordinating releases, and past cycles have shown that anyone who is not putting in the time and work here is more likely to impede and pointlessly block releases. If you are a part of the release team then you will be expected to do actual work related to releases. This is not a "join because there's a button to click and then go idle" group. Ideally we will have enough active members that it's no longer a single person doing everything related to releases anymore and so that we can have fewer disruptions in the planned release scheduling.
