to answer to your questions :
- I use default theme, switching to mild theme .... fixes it
as reverting d138086df2c90b21 does
- GNU bash, version 5.0.16(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu)
- PS1 is not multiline
- switching between software or OpenGL rendering has no impact
- I do use translucent bg, switching it off has no impact
