But never mind it anymore. I built newer (Bullseye) components from
Debian packaging for pulseaudio 13.0-5.1

I stripped all references to systemd in meson.build,
meson_options.txt, debian/control, debian/rules, commented out systemd
specific line 'autospawn=no' in debian/00-disable-autospawn.conf, and
built the DEBs. Subsequently, installed newly built packages over the
older versions. Heck, I did not even have to reboot the system --as
volume icon came immediately to life!

Hopefully, the System -> Power Off/ Reboot E -buttons will work similarly. ;-)
