Thanks for your interest Sahil, 'Summer of code' is a Google program to increase participation in open source projects. It is targeted towards students. Google provides a $4500 stipend for the participating student and $500 for the mentoring organization.
As to what I'm looking to get from this, well, I use e17 daily, and believe in the direction that it is headed in. As with all open source projects the best way to show your appreciation is by investing time and effort. Basically it is my way of giving back to the community.
