This is the best option given the current user base and like. ;-) I hope we can have some nice gadgets using nm to provide status and quick access, maybe a simple but powerful "app" inside E to control basics, like I did with my mixer [1,2] which have this "mixer app" that is really just a dialog provided by the applet, so it's very light, but useful.
