As we're now moving to packages and all I'd like to propose to unify
efforts on metadata and have a common place to add them. I think the
following would be good:
$PROJECT/info/: contains project information in the files:
description: short description (72 chars max) followed by
white/empty line and long description, paragraphs wrapped to 72 chars
and empty lines to separate paragraphs.
icon.png: if applicable (app), provide an icon
screenshot.png: if applicable (app),recent screenshot
that way we can even have configure --help to use info/description,
also README can be generated from README.in by including description,
packages can use that, as well as icons if possible by package system
(maemo does, for instance).
