As far as I know, the code is based on the other Input Method implementations out there, i.e. GTK+ and Qt. He also started the implementation of an input method module based on the iPhone virtual keyboard example found on python-edje source code. I have plans to make it available as a package for Nokia Maemo devices, and put some time on it a while ago.
