Although I voted for GIT, there's one important thing to keep in mind.
Git does *not* support cloning only parts of a repository which means
you will have to create a lot of git repositories, this not a bad thing,
it's just something to remember if you ever want to automatically
convert the history/start working from now on. Furthermore, this will
have to change the way we think about the repository (for example the
usage of the TMP dir). The reason you have to use multiple repositories
is because getting the whole tree just for one component is plain
stupid, time consuming and bandwidth consuming.

I really like GIT, it's awesome, especially when sending/receiving
patches is involved (apply-mail and send-email) :P
