I agree with all the points Barbieri raised.  It's much easier to
follow the changes if people take 1 more minute testing, 1 more minute
certifying that all the things are being committed and 1 minute
writing the commit message.

I have 1 suggestion:

5 - If you are not sure, don't commit, ask someone to review your patch.


And please, the subject of this mail is "Improving commits and their
messages". Please, *don't start a discussion about git/svn/etc here*.
Even if they would write the commit message for you, they'd not
provide the content we're claiming for.
