I was about to.  lol

I think it was just that I had not actually rebooted after the last
update, and the last update had installed a new kernel.  Usually that's
OK, and I was gonna reboot after I was done reading a book online.  I
suspect it was the new kernel headers confusing things.

Actually, I was only gonna revert the edje_lua2 part, leaving your
edje_util changes as is.  That file is someone elses worry, but I don't
think your changes caused any problem there.
