It's not a trick, it's the default behaviour!!! :)

You are welcomed to send a test case, but I believe I already get what 
you are trying to do. Unfortunately I don't see how it can be done with 
the current behaviour. So yeah, that's expected with the current 
behaviour. As I said yesterday night on IRC, if you can set the 
textblock height to fixed and just set a height (based on relative sizes 
for example) it'll work, but of course you'll have the empty space if 
the text is too small.
