No special attribute. And it's nothing specific to Eo it's a global var 
being set in a function, heck, think of errno, it's the same. I don't 
know why GCC is being all bitchy and does it this way, but it's rather 
annoying.

I don't know what makes GCC misbehave like that, but it's not the first 
time I've seen such a thing.
