more machines == more complexity. complexity is not what we need. :( it's
actually complexity that is hurting us. we are not short of capacity. we're
swimming in it.

as per my mail to andy... so what if we have more machines? if they are mirrors
then how do you reconcile the database changes? now we add complexity to do
that. if we just split capacity - the issue isn't capacity. it's some bug in
the kernel. perhaps switching from vm's to containers might be better than all
the effort in running multiple servers in multiple locations...
