if you run ebindings and choose the "Desks" tab you will find that you
can give two values. one is for the number of real desktops, and the
other is for virtual desktop (at least that is how they were called in
e16, now the label says "virtual workspaces" :). for the virtual desktop
you can choose an height and a width.
the default value should be 2x2, and effectively when I started running
e17 I noticed that moving the cursor to the edge of the screen makes the
screen itself move to a different workspace.
in e16 I disabled edge flip and used shift+alt+arrows to move between
workspaces, in e17 I did not find the way to do the same things.

I thought so too, especially when I noticed that iconbar_bottom and
iconbar_left have different sizes in megs.
