I've been giving the idea of suing spammers serious thought and have been looking through articles on the web. There's some fairly good information at http://www.spamcon.org/ for US citizens. It occured to me that we could sue the spammer that sends mail to this list on behalf of everyone on the list and use the money for the enlightenment project. Unfortunatly I know very little about the laws in general and the people on this list do not all live in the US. I'm not sure you can file a class action suit involving people in different countries but it may be possible. Is anyone here familiar enough with the law to know whether this is plausible or worthwhile? Also, I don't remember whether the spammer spoofed his address or not and whether it's possible to sue him if he did.
