Okey, maybe this should go in the FAQ, it's not an E problem, but
it comes up alot, and I admit getting frustrated myself last time I
installed some PCFs where only half them worked.

So, PCF fonts. 23oz (get it on FreshMeat, search themes for "23oz") is
provided as a tarball in which you'll find 2 PCF fonts (moosefont and
vizung - Pixelheads fav font), the theme itself and an INSTALL doc.As stated in the
INSTALL file, _typically_ you need to do nothing but copy
the font to your PCF font directory (typically:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc), then go to that directory, run the command
"mkfontdir" and then unless your using XFS just type "xset fp rehash" and
b00m your ready to go. If you have XFS (the X Font Server, not the
filesystem, check with a "ps -ef") you usually can restart the init script
("/etc/init.d/xfs stop" and then "/etc/init.d/xfs start"). You can tell
it worked by looking at the fonts.dir file in the misc directory, grep for
the theme name and you should see it. A simple way to test that the font
works is using Eterm, just start Eterm from the command line like this
"Eterm -F vizung" and you should get an Eterm using that font. If it's
not installed properly Eterm will complain and fall back to Fixed. (This
assumes your using Linux, if you are using Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX or AIX,
mail me)
So, what if this simple procedure doesn't work...... and from time to time
it doesn't. Here's how I deal with it, do this only if the first method
above didn't work...
In your PCF fonts directory (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc) look for a
file named fonts.alias. If it's there good, if not we'll create it.Now, in
fonts.dir look for the name of the font (the line created by
mkfontdir) and delete it. Now add a new line that looks like this:
vizung.pcf -nfp-vizung-medium-r-normal--12-120-75-75-p-50-iso8859-1

Now, open up fonts.alias. If there is already an alias file just add
a new line to the end, if this is a new file, just add this line:

vizung "-nfp-vizung-medium-r-normal--12-120-75-75-p-50-iso8859-1"

Save the file and rehash via "xset fp rehash". Double check to make
sure there is only one line per file for the font! Once your sure, rehash
and use our Eterm test ("Eterm -F vizung"). It should work now. If it's
still not working make sure your not using XFS, or try closing X and
restarting fresh.
Use the above procedure for each font that doesn't work replacing
"vizung" for the name of the font your fixing. This did the trick for
me and should work well for you.
