RIght now, Eterm cvs has support for imlib2 and freetype2 (as far as I can tell). I've been using it for quite some time now too. My main gripe before was that there was no support for code page 1251 (bulgarian charset(cyrillic)). However, since Eterm now has support for freetype2 (as is E, which was also my main gripe against it before), I can specify any ttf font that has cyrillic characters in it, use it with cp1251, and be done with it. So now I have cyrillic support in both Eterm and E. That's why I don't care about utf-8, and as long as future work on Eterm and E doesn't interfere with me using cp1251 I really don't care if it's in or not :) (I don't even know how I should set LC_CTYPE to utf-8, but that's another story).
