I had the same Problem. I think it's a problem with too small screens
and high resolution. Most theme designers do it on big screens. Because
of this I created a new theme (from winter) with bigger fonts and
graphics [1]. Perhaps you give it a try.

Or try the new e16menuedit2 (gtk2.4) CVS-Package [2] ;-)

It isn't the newest CVS version. You can't access the CVS because it's
only local, but in some weeks (after my exams) I put a new CVS checkout
there.
