No, Brad, to complete your answer, you don't need to restart e, just
regenerate menus. To do that, middle-click -> maintenance -> regenerate
menus. The Bgs you added should appear in the desktop menu... middle-click
-> desktop -> backgrounds -> background you want.

I wonder what ebg and bbrb are Florence, would you mind filling in my lack
of knowledge?
