I'm using 0.16.999.027 on FreeBSD 6.1, transparency is working, DRI is enabled and I can stack as much transparent Eterms as I want, without getting any performance problems. But as soon as I switch to a screen where Sylpheed-Claws or Firefox are running unshaded, Enlightenment's cpu usage goes up the roof, even though there is no transparency used on the current screen and the only movement happens in gkrellm. With a fixed cpu frequency of 600 Mhz, xcompmgr running and four transparent Eterms, gkrellm and a few modules on the current display, Enlightenment's cpu usage stays around 1%: last pid: 59717; load averages: 0.34, 0.67, 0.66 up 0+04:22:46 15:01:11 63 processes: 1 running, 62 sleeping CPU states: 3.5% user, 0.0% nice, 1.6% system, 0.0% interrupt, 94.9% idle Mem: 214M Active, 132M Inact, 86M Wired, 3556K Cache, 60M Buf, 57M Free Swap: 998M Total, 998M Free PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND 54270 fk 1 96 0 74264K 41228K select 5:07 0.34% Xorg 54280 fk 1 96 0 8876K 6760K select 0:05 0.05% Eterm 54273 fk 1 96 0 37572K 34236K select 19:03 0.00% enlightenment 54275 fk 3 20 0 14420K 8968K kserel 1:43 0.00% gkrellm 90015 fk 4 20 0 85336K 68756K kserel 1:23 0.00% firefox-bin But with Firefox or Sylpheed-Claws open and unshaded in the current screen, Enlightenment's cpu usage goes up and stays there: last pid: 59655; load averages: 1.23, 0.92, 0.73 up 0+04:19:49 14:58:14 63 processes: 2 running, 61 sleeping CPU states: 93.8% user, 0.0% nice, 6.3% system, 0.0% interrupt, 0.0% idle Mem: 215M Active, 133M Inact, 86M Wired, 3556K Cache, 60M Buf, 56M Free Swap: 998M Total, 998M Free PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND 54273 fk 1 129 0 37572K 34236K RUN 18:32 81.54% enlightenment 54270 fk 1 102 0 77276K 42560K select 4:59 13.04% Xorg 54275 fk 3 20 0 14420K 8968K kserel 1:40 0.00% gkrellm 90015 fk 4 20 0 85336K 68756K kserel 1:23 0.00% firefox-bin 430 _tor 1 4 0 11524K 10600K kqread 0:46 0.00% tor 85936 fk 1 96 0 39688K 30148K select 0:44 0.00% sylpheed-claws If I shade Sylpheed-Claws (or Firefox), the cpu usage goes down again. Sylpheed-Claws' "Compose message" window or Firefox' "Preferences" window don't show the effect, only the main window do. Is anybody else seeing this? Fabian -- http://www.fabiankeil.de/
