because you can't just set a "jpeg" as a bg. e has to know WHAT TO DO WITH IT.
does it center it? tile it like a pattern? scale it to fit? scale it retaining
aspect ratio and pad the spare pixels when it doesn't fit with some color? scale
it with aspect to it will always fill the screen? i can go on... the .edj ALSO
encodes WHAT to do with the image - how to align, scale etc. it. the .edj
encodes this in a config file that is re-usable. otherwise you would need to
specify these things every time you change a wallpaper.

yes. so be it - see above. it's easy to do. the .edj provides the layout info -
a jpeg does not contain this info.
