Well as I've said, I have the necessary dependencies installed; I have the ports jpeg-6b_4, png-1.2.12_1 and tiff-3.8.2. The problem, as pointed out by Ravana at enlightenment.org forums, apparently has to do with library and include locations. So using the FreeBSD imlib2 port, with a minor edit to the Makefile, I could build the latest development snapshot of imlib2.
