Ugh, pulse, (don't throw me in that briar patch ;-) I put my Archlinux
drive in my laptop to check out the sound situation. Sound works fine in
e17, but gives the same results in e16. The moment I enable sound, the
screen freezes. Archlinux always stays up to date with their packages
and currently has epplet-base 0.12-1. Unfortunately there were no errors
in the logs in Arch that might help.

The only difference (module wise) between the archlinux and opensuse
installs is that I'm using the radeonhd module in Arch and fglrx in
openSuSE (still have Xorg 7.3 there). I'll swap drives back and check
the sound in e17 in opensuse and also report back the epplets version.
IIRC the epplet version is the same. I pulled the e16 packages from a
repository that builds from the latest sources, but I'll double-check.

Thank you again for your help. Just a few pearls of wisdom make all the
difference in the world ;-)

P.S. Sorry about the post to you instead of the list the last time. I
just caught the fact that tbird was up to its old tricks.
