I almost always shut down with "sudo shutdown -h 0", so e16 shouldn't have  
trouble with that. Very recent configuration / snapshot changes may be  
lost though.

I'm somewhat wondering, maybe what you want is an X session manager? e16  
will cooperate with it if it's there.
