What is up with the E backlight gadget? works fine for me on everything i have (except 1 laptop which hae no xbacklight controls nor do the /sys/... backlight kernel controls do anything - they are non-functional). e's backlight control uses either the x backlight controls (xrandr support) if available, or drops down to eeze (udev). if there is another mechanism - it has no clue about it (eg /proc/acpi? ). if the keys work maybe either gnome-powermanager is using them if they produce acpi events, if they produce key events then maybe they dont produce the normal x backlight keysyms. if they do e's backlight system will by default be bound to use these. on some machines the keys work directly with acpi/bios and change bl directly. unless i have the machine to try fix the backlight on - i can't do much about it. the 1 machine it doesnt work on that i have seems to have driver issues there (as above). -- ------------- Codito, ergo sum - "I code, therefore I am" -------------- The Rasterman (Carsten Haitzler) [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For Developers, A Lot Can Happen In A Second.
