I'm running E16 version 1.0.0-4, as packaged by Debian - the latest version they
provide. (They actually don't even provide that anymore, outside of Debian
stable; see Debian bug 619707.)

In the interim since my previous reboot, I upgraded a considerable number of
packages; e16 may have been among them (if so, my previous version was 1.0.0-3).
Yesterday, I shut down due to power loss. When I brought the system back up
after power came back, I encountered a bizarre behavior which almost has to be a
bug of some kind.

Specifically: clicking, middle-clicking, or right-clicking on the root window
does not bring up any menus, on the first virtual desktop *only*. On the second
(and any subsequent, as far as I've tested it) virtual desktop, menus work just
fine.

Since I A: launch almost all of my programs through these menus (albeit most of
them indirectly, through launched uxterms), and B: use only one virtual desktop
(albeit many "areas"), this is crippling to my configuration.

The behavior remains even if I remove my ~/.e16 directory and let it be
re-generated; that's how I discovered that non-first virtual desktops aren't
affected.

I can't see any way this isn't a bug. What I'm not sure of is where the bug is
located. At first I thought it was in E16 (probably introduced by the 1.0.0-4
package version, which has been reported to have had other problems), but the
same behavior persisted when I tried multiple other versions, including
1.0.0-3.1 and a self-compiled copy of 1.0.10. I now think this is probably being
triggered by a change somewhere else in the system.

E16 does not create any logs, or output any console messages, that I'm aware of.
How can I track down the cause of this bug? Any ideas what might be causing,
producing, or triggering it?
