just for the record:
*) I've removed all the hand-edited .la files,
namely libxml2.la, libglib-2.0.la and libgnutls.a
*) find $prefix/lib -name "*.la" | xargs rm
find $e17_src_path -name "*.la" | xargs rm
*) easy_e17.sh --srcpath=$e17_src_path -i --packagelist=full -c -c
lead me to a succesfull compilation of elf and e17.
