Wido,

The best way to get documentation is to download the source code of the
projects and run doxygen in the doc/ folder of the project.
doxygen docs are automatically generated for you.

The documents have good examples to begin with.

However, The same docs are hosted online as well. I could not find any
dummies guide other than reasonable examples to check out!
