After taking in you perspective I was able to rethink my situation - I finally found a guide for setting nVidia as the default sound card by editing /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf in the "# defaults" section, followed the guide and uninstalled all the excess pulseaudio libs that I could.
Now I have Master control via kbd and UI directed to the nVidia card!
