Hi, This might work for you, since you mentioned you want to move to stock Debian. I'm running Debian Testing, and things are working fine. I regularly switch back and forth between GNOME and E, as I'm one of the six people on earth who actually like GNOME 3. I think they got the idea right with dynamic virtual desktops and the "overview". If only GNOME3 was more like E or vice versa.
Anyway, it works for me and I think it will work for you. For some reason, NetworkManager seems to connect to my wireless even when I login with E. So I am in E, but the connman applet just looks like a (!) icon, but I'm online so I'm not going to worry about it. I believe it depends on me having used GNOME before, somehow NM remembers its settings. On the other hand, some people are talking about uninstalling and reinstalling every time they login to a different desktop. I would be very annoyed if I had to do that. Slightly less annoying, I can switch the services via: $ su # invoke-rc.d networkmanager stop # connmand & exit # the debian connman script is broken otherwise we would be able to invoke-rc.d connman start and I can switch back via: $ su # killall connmand # invoke-rc.d networkmanager start But in the present situation, I really don't need to do any of that, so why should I? I hope this works for you too.
