The only time I've heard of Enlightenment hanging on startup
(though not in a VM), is with 0.17.4.  If that's what you're
using, try downgrading to 0.17.3.  That seems to have worked for
other folks.  That's all I've got, I'm afraid.  Someone else may know
more.
