this sounds like a bug workaround ... and we should fix the bug... startinc
iconic shouldnt mess anything up.

compositor. just like it can zoom/fade in - here you want it to slide in from a
side (top for example). :) one day i should add such an effect by default so
you can just choose it. never got around to it.
