Hello everyone, pardon the necromancy but as a newcomer to the list, I
did some searching on a bug I'm encountering and came across this
posting.

Any updates on this idea Arlo?

I definitely agree with your API implementation, as it would be insane
to write adaptations for every one of the apps out there on Linux.

I would add that the concept would need to be an AI server, of sorts.
A middleware that knows how to talk to other middleware. That's what I
love about Enlightenment: you can add modules for functionality that
the WM/DE hadn't even thought of! (although in my recent experience
with E, module's potential has been underutilized)

Graphical representation of data as a whole is very skeuomorph, and
that's where I think something like this would excel. We're still very
much stuck to the analog counterparts of how things "ought to look",
instead of using the dozens of degrees of added informational layers
that visual representation can give us.

The transitional phase needs to give way for the new approach. When TV
first came out, the soap operas went from radio to... a guy sitting in
a chair reading the script in front of the camera. Why? Because people
weren't used to the new medium. The medium had to give "backwards
compatibility" so-to-speak.

But I, like millions of others, have grown up with computers. We don't
need skeuomorph. We're not asking for a "faster horse". We need the
next exponential leap in computing.
