sounds like you'd want to use the quickaccess module. go to main menu -> modules -> launcher -> quickaccess and enable it. Then right click on the window border, go to add quickaccess in the drop down menu, and configure the keybinding, and the behvior settings. One thing to make sure to do is to make sure that the 'transient' option is unset, otherwise the quickaccess you've set up will be lost when the window closes.
