Interesting as I used a netbook with an external monitor for a brief 
period and, like magicloud,just wanted to use the external monitor (no 
other keyboard available). I once forgot to turn the internal screen 
before shutting down and had to sign in as root to reset. Hot-plugging 
would be nice in those instances, but is perhaps too hardware dependent 
to program easily.
