that is an emacs bug when you set the hidden netwm property (and unset it). e
does this to windows when they are minimized or on other virtual desktops (or
when screensver kicks in). it has to do with emacs + gtk support. use emacs
without gtk suppot and it works.

somehow emacs realises it moved to being a hidden state but never sees itself
become non-hidden and thus doesnt update its own window.
