This is surprising. If the Nikon software can do it, then the libgphoto2
ought to be able todo it too. It certainly works on my Nikon D90 which is
a lower spec than your D300. My best guess is that the libgphoto2 library
version you have installed is outdated.

I'd suggest the first thing to check is that you have the very latest
libgphoto2 installed. If it still says it is unsupported, try running
the gphoto2 command line tool using the '--capture-preview' option.
If the command line tool works, then the bug is in entangle. If the
command line tool also fails, then the bug is in libgphoto2. The
libgphoto2 developers are very knowledgeable so it would be worth
contacting them if it doesn't work.

There are a couple of ways non-technical people can help

 - Report any features that would like to see added to the bug
tracker. I've never used the commercial capture software
directly myself, only seen it demo'd, so I'm just designing
entangle based on what I need it to do, and what other people
   say they want to see.

 - Spread the knowledge about entangle's existance to anyone
who is interested. eg mention it in relevant web forums if
people ask about capture software. Write blog posts about your
experiances with it, etc, so that google picks up the web links
   to our site.

 - For non-English speakers, if you're able to contribute to
translations of Entangle (or even any part of Fedora) they
are maintained by the Transifex Fedora translations team

    https://fedora.transifex.com/projects/p/entangle/

Your note about documentation is will taken. I have very little free
time and I personally hate writing docs, but I guess I should start
the basic outline of documentation so that interested people can then
contribute content to that.

Regards,
Daniel
