An interesting question.

If I assume you mean you wish to influence inbound traffic then your options
are very limited as the provider usually has no obligation to honor any metrics
you attempt to set.

If I assume you are trying to influence your outbound routing options then you
would want to create several import policies to give varying preferences to the
routes you choose to receive.

If you need assistance, call into support.

Have a great day!

Hi All,
I have an old SSR8000 doing BGP into several upstream peers. I am about to add
another peer, but I want to be able to influence the upstream route selection
so that the new peer is only used as a last resort (ie, when all other gateways
are unavailable). I also want to be able to change this on a per-advert basis,
ie have some prefixes delivered by this peer always, but only as a last resort
for other prefixes.

Can anybody suggest how to influence upstream routes? AS-path prepending
doesn't sound like it's flexible enough. What other metrics are available to me?

Thanks in advance,
             Leigh
