Hi,

Standard practise for Enterasys is to advise that Node-Alias should be disabled
on uplink ports. This helps minimise false positive results and speeds up the
search times.
We also normally advise that the number of Node-Alias entries be reduced on all
edge ports. If each edge port is designed to have nothing more than a PC and
phone connected, then 6 entries for example should be good enough. Again this
will help speed up search times.

Hi,
Compass search is based on “node-alias” tables,
You can try to disable node-alias agent on your uplinks, hence you will lose
this part of information but may get clean (faster?) result on searches…
Matrix(rw)->set nodealias disable fe.1.3
(I Did not tried this yet)

Yoram.

נושא: [enterasys] Netsight Compass

Hi,

i try to use Netsight (NS 4.0.0.89) compass on several sites to get information
where a client (end-user PC) is connected to a switch.
All sites have a 100% Enterasys environment.

I am looking for an identifier to see at compass search results which is the
end-user port. Regards manual “active” should be this identifier.
In every try I get several ports (end-user and uplink port) and only with
knowledge of the network I can exclude uplink ports.

I open a GTAC case – but after a several mails – Enterasys has no other
solution as to know the network to decide which is end-user or uplink port.

I am searching for an identifier where we can see in Netsight compass the
correct end-user port without network knowledge.
How are your experience with compass ??

PS: I know with 802.1x and NAC-GW I would see that also – without any
confusions.

Mit freundlichen Grüssen / With kind Regards
Matthias Nees
