I have seen 'link local multicast' traffic cause this. That is multicast
traffic the is not meant to be routed off the vlan so it is dropped. In
that case it was a surveillance camera monitoring application.

Subject: [enterasys] tg in/out discards

Hi,

We have problems on our 10G links on our N7s, that is mainly backup
servers and metro connection to the other site (multiplexed dark fibre).
"In Discards" and "Out Discards" are high. The more traffic is on the
link, the more discards seem to happen.

'show rmon stats' gives me lots of "drop events" and the tg interfaces
show these discards but no errors.

We do have ingress filtering on those links, but egress settings on both
sides are ok.

1) What could be the reason?
2) Could there be performance problems as a result?

I'll have to check my cacti graphs of the actual N7 CPU usage, of course
they seem to be malfunctioning now that one would need them.

Bye.
