Try this:
sudo apt-get remove --purge samba4
sudo apt-get remove --purge samba-common-bin
sudo apt-get remove --purge samba
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/samba
sudo rm /etc/samba/smb.conf
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install samba-common-bin
sudo apt-get install samba
Then reboot and retest.
I have no further suggestions to make....
