Question #216550 on samba in Ubuntu changed:

    Status: Open => Answered

actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
Run:

sudo smbpasswd -a $USER

You can now set a Samba password for your username. You can now access
this but tell the OS to remember the share credentials. If the client is
Windows based, you can map a network drive and set the username and
password and again, tell it to remember the credentials. Once you have
got a connection you won't be bothered for credentials again.
