alienheartbeat confirmed that the question is solved:
For the benefit of anyone else who may come across the same issue:
I purged samba, which also uninstalled winbind.
After that, smbd processses no longer appeared in process list and were no
longer listening on ports.
Wine continued to work.
For good measure, I then also purged smbclient, smb-common, smb-common-
bin.
Wine continues to work.
